Gay Pride Returning to Huntington

Superhero theme for parade, Heckscher Park festival.

Gay pride returns to Huntington June 8 with a parade and Heckscher Park festival using a superhero theme.

Long Island GLBT Services Network is organizing the event, which will follow a different route this year because of complaints from village businesses about the impact of such a parade on Saturday sales.

This year, marchers will start off from the Village Green, head up Park Avenue and then turn back on to Main Street. The Super Pride theme is meant to honor those in the gay community who have been working for equality.

The parade will step off at noon. The park festival will feature music throughout the day, vendors, as well as food and other activities.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union is the main sponsor for the event.

“With Bethpage’s support for 2013, we are able to build upon the success of Long Island Pride 2012 with more groups marching in the parade, more exhibitors at PrideFest in Huntington’s Heckscher Park, and headliner entertainment,”  said Network CEO David Kilmnick.
