Filling The Gap On Main Street

A cafeteria, a grocery store, a cell phone store, a health food store, and a furniture store are among the many businesses proposed to fill the space vacated by The Gap six years ago.

Owners of the building, located at 83 Main Street in Northport, are closer to filling the space since receiving permits for demolition and subdivision from the village in mid-May after a two-year process.

The 4,500 square foot ground floor is being stripped and renovated before being subdivided into two store fronts. The 3,500 square foot second floor is "raw" and in an open plan, much like a gym. The building is zoned for commercial use.

Susan Salzman, listing agent with Adelaide Byers Realtors, said the renovation and subdivision will take roughly three months to complete. The owners are currently considering a number of proposals for the space, including something akin to a community center.

"Something in the way of kids," Salzman confirmed, "but it's not formed yet in the whole proposal."

Those interested in the space can contact listing agents Susan Salzman or Terry White of Adelaid Byers Realtors at 631-261-6700.
