VIDEO: Power Returning to Northport

Northport Police Chief Ric Bruckenthal said power restored to areas in and around Main Street around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

After Irene swept through Long Island this weekend, the town of Northport is slowly recovering from the Tropical Storm.

According to Chief Ric Bruckenthal, conditions are improving in the Northport area. Power was finally restored to the areas in and around Main Street around 4 a.m. Tuesday, said Bruckenthal.

As of 12:30 p.m., LIPA is reporting 279 customers are still without power with 3,802 customers being restored back to power in Northport. 245 customers are still being affected in East Northport with LIPA reporting 7,122 customers being served since the storm.

Bruckenthal advised residents without power to try and remain patient while LIPA continues to work to restore power to everyone in the area.

Bruckenthal also noted that there were no injuries to report as a result of the storm. Bruckenthal noted that some lights at intersections may be out, but road crews are working on restoring order throughout Northport.

The intersection at Larkfield and Pulaski in East Northport was undergoing maintenance by road crews Tuesday morning. Cones were set up to help guide traffic while the light was being repaired. By 2:30 p.m. the light was back in operation.

Scudder and Reservoir avenues in Northport were also without a working traffic light as road crews worked to repair them.
