Savers Opens on Larkfield Road

Savers celebrated its grand opening Thursday at its newest Long Island location at 755 Larkfield Road in Commack, on the East Northport border.

The store is the third on Long Island. The thrift shop has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, in which it pays the nonprofit for every donation made through the Community Donation Center at the store. 

Savers sorts the donations, chooses the highest-quality items to sell at the store and recycles the remainder or sends them to developing countries. Savers president and CEO Ken Alterman noted that Savers is one of the largest clothing recyclers in the world. 

Among those attending the grand opening was Mark Cox, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.

“Savers’ business model addresses the economy, social responsibility and the environment by creating jobs, supporting charities and promoting reuse and recycling,” Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone said. “I welcome them to Huntington and wish them much success.”

“Savers is a unique addition to the Town’s retail mix, somewhere between the traditional thrift store and discounter,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson added. “I congratulate them for choosing Huntington for their newest location and for selecting such a worthy organization in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island as their local nonprofit partner. “
