Man Wins Big for Losing at Orangetheory

Joe Mammolito of East Northport receives $2,500 check after completing weight loss challenge.

Joe Mammolito of East Northport was the biggest loser and winner of $2,500 in
studio’s 6 Week Weight Loss Challenge last month. The 40-year-old father of three lost 37 pounds, 13 percent of his body weight, by limiting his calorie intake and regularly working out at the East Northport fitness studio.

Second place winner Arlene Mohr, 49, also of East Northport, lost 28 pounds and 12.9 percent in body weight. Both winners received a variety of prizes for their efforts, as well as the priceless health benefits and satisfaction that come from a significant weight loss.

Participants in the Weight Loss Challenge attend a minimum of three 60-minute Orangetheory Fitness group classes per week and maintain a healthy diet. Tracking food intake is an important key to achieving weight loss goals and Orangetheory works with participants to keep a weekly food log throughout the 6-week challenge. The goal is to show the greatest improvement over six weeks, measured by percentage of weight loss.

“Our group classes are highly motivating and geared to the individual,” said Elyse Pedersen, owner of the East Northport studio and area developer for Orangetheory. “Individual heart rates are carefully monitored throughout the session, and our trainers use this information to inspire each participant to push past plateaus and work toward their individual goals. An Orangetheory Fitness workout combines the best aspects and proven benefits of group and personal training like structure, support, energy, endurance and accountability.”

Backed by the science of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), Orangetheory’s 60-minute group personal training workout is broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training. Each participant’s individual heart-rate is monitored throughout the session, which is designed to keep heart rates in a target zone that stimulates metabolism and increases energy. Led by experienced, accredited personal trainers, participants use a variety of equipment including treadmills, rowing machines, TRX Suspension Training, and free weights, burning an average of 900 calories per session. The result is the Orange Effect –more energy, visible toning and extra calorie burn for up to 36 hours post-workout.

Orangetheory Fitness typically hosts a 6 Week Challenge each time a new studio opens, and other shorter contest throughout the year. Past winners have lost as much as 48 pounds in six weeks. Contest specifics are available at the studio. Exercisers can book a session online at www.orangetheoryfitness.com or by calling 631-499-4500.
