LIPA Staff To Accept Budget Comments Nov. 17, Dec. 7
The board held a budget workshop Nov. 5 but public was not invited to speak.
LIPA staff members hosted a public budget workshop Friday, Nov. 5th, presenting the proposed capital and operating budget to its Board of Trustees.
And while public comment or participation was not allowed at the workshop, it will be permitted at upcoming hearings.
On both Nov. 17 and Dec. 7, LIPA will hold public hearings on both the proposed operating and capital budgets, a PDF copy of which is attached to this article.
Comments on the budget may also be submitted by e-mail via LIPA's Web site and will be accepted through December 16th.
It is anticipated that the LIPA Board of Trustees will consider the adoption of the proposed 2011 budget at its December 16th, 2010 meeting, which is also open to the public and will be held at LIPA's headquarters at 333 Earle Ovington Boulevard in Uniondale beginning at 11a.m.

In the budget, Payments in-lieu-of Taxes, or PILOTs, are budgeted at $222 million, an increase of $21.9 million (10.9%) as compared with the approved 2010 budget for 2010. According to the budget notes, the expense levels reflect forecasts of real property-based taxes presently incurred by LIPA from various jurisdictions, including the Rockaways, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, towns, villages, school districts and special purpose districts.

The PILOTs paid to Northport-area special districts is $47 million.

The LIPA board is made up of 14 members appointed by either the governor, the state assembly leader or the state senate leader.
