Hundreds Gather for 'A Taste Of Long Island'

Eighth annual fundraiser honoring Linda Taylor, CEO of VNSHS, brings out a record crowd of 500 guests.

A record number of people came to Larkfield Manor Thursday night for the eighth annual  fundraiser.

Nearly 500 guests were in attendance for the event, which was sponsored by the, the and the . 

The 2011 special honoree was Linda Taylor, who has served as the VNSHS’s CEO for the past 30 years.

In her remarks, Executive Director of the East Northport Chamber of Commerce Sharon Moulton thanked the guests and local merchants for their support.

Moulton also said that the attendance topped all previous records.

Jim Leonick of the East Northport Rotary spoke of Taylor’s many accomplishments, which included being honored with a Healthcare Heroes Award in 2006, and being chosen as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.

The in East Northport -- the first inpatient Hospice House in New York state -- has served about 2,000 families since it opened in 2004, and it is one of the achievements of which she is most proud, Taylor said.

She said the distinction of ‘Taste of Long Island’ honoree shined a spotlight on “what I love to do and what I want to do,” which includes providing care, which enables people to remain comfortably and safely in their homes. Over the past six years, home healthcare provided by VNSHS has impacted 20,000 families on Long Island, Taylor said.
