Empty In Northport: Former Blockbuster

What would you like to see in place of this vacant property?

Drive down 25A or Main Street and you will notice some vacant storefronts adorned with "For Rent" signs, a possible indication of the hard times the area — and country — are facing.

Northport Patch will spotlight empty properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab abandoned places. This week we're highlighting the former location of Blockbuster Video at 745 Fort Salonga Road in the CVS shopping center. The location closed in April of 2011 after the company filed bankruptcy.

Losing this store tore a hole in my heart. Yes, you can watch movies online. But there's something about browsing titles that made a trip to Blockbuster exciting.

i would like to see a place where families can congergate and sit and relax in between shopping...a coffe shop, a cafe, howabout a coffee/bakey/ shop with TV screens and books....a place to network community together.......we can call it "THE BARTERING HOUSE"...an exchange of skills and professionals locally.

I agree Jason. My daughters would spend allot time browsing threw the movies I miss Blockbuster.

a non-chain store that is actually beneficial to the community wow what an amazing idea!

5 Guys would be great but the Village probably would never allow it. Although, you never know.

I agree. Non chain. We don't need a panera in northport. We have batata, Copenhagen, and many other places that serve far better quality food.

I like Danielle's idea of a neighborhood hangout. We have Portofino, but a larger space would be nice too. Does anyone have a business plan?

It is a difficult place because of the size and a hangout place would not be condusive to paying the rent in addition to crowding up the parking lot which is presently crowded because of the volume of business in The CVS. It must be replaced with a turnover business, not a stagnant business that hang out places are characteristic..

Adding another eating spot on 25A while we're still trying to keep 7-11 out of the Nocello location won't work in this economic climate. We have just about everything we need right now in the general neighborhood. The only venue missing is a coffee bar which could offer music a la Classy Coffee before it burned down.

Excellent idea. I would be very interested in a joint venture like that.

maybe a group meeting with interested parties to work up a business plan.
Paul J. Schatz May 15, 2012 at 09:15 PM
Actually there is a lot of parking to the west of the lot. Not by CVS. By Chase.

Best onion soup!

Classy Coffee was a good venue for Huntington village but something similar would stand a better chance of succeeding on Main St, Northport, rather than standing alone on 25A. Batata is currently on 25A and while it does well, location is a limiting factor.

A Korean massage parlor...with a happy ending.
