Carnival-Like Atmosphere Comes to Main Street

Northport Family Harbor Nights kick off Tuesday when Main Street closes for street fair atmosphere.

If it’s a Tuesday night in August, then expect a carnival-like atmosphere along Main Street in Northport.

The fourth annual Northport Family Harbor Nights kicks off Tuesday. Main Street will close to car traffic at 5 p.m. from Union Place to Woodbine Ave.

Several local eateries are featuring specials, such as , which is offering a goodie bag for children (12 and under) with the purchase of an entrée.

Family Harbor Nights is partnership between the Village and the . 

“Our Tuesday nights grew out of the business development committee,” Village Trustee Tom Kehoe said. “It was something we saw Patchogue had done. We tried to do something similar and it’s been very successful.”

There will be live entertainment, games for children, outdoor dining and classic cars on display, according to Kehoe.

“It’s something to stimulate local business and something for the local residents to have a good time,” Kehoe said. “That’s what Tuesday nights are all about.”
