East Northport's own Inner Spirit Yoga Center and Dance Company performed at the Carnival Sound Stage in Heckscher Park during the Long Island Fall Festival on Saturday.
Their performance incorporated traditional bellydance as well as Bollywood and even Spanish influences. Yoga practitioners also performed an enchanting yoga dance on the lawn, representing the mental transformation of a meditator from chaos to tranquility.
"The meditator sat in the middle and the people outside were hooked with white string to a hoop and as they danced and moved with it," explained Choreographer and Inner Spirit Dance Company Owner Roni Yaari. "Each person represents one part of the brain. It starts as chaos, but through the meditation each part of the mind begins to work together."
Inner Spirit members demonstrated both yoga practice and dance at their both on Madison Street on mats and rugs. If the enchanting dances and colorful costumes aren't enough to entice you to stop by, they are also giving away coupons for a free introductory class.
"Belly dancing is fun, it's uplifting," said Yaari, who added that her studio offers a unique fusion style of dance that heavily incorporates Bollywood styles as well as Spanish influences. She has trained all of the members performing with her company and has danced for over 20 years.
Inner Spirit will also be performing Hula Hoop dancing at the festival at their booth on Sunday until about 5 p.m. They will not attend in the case of rain.
