'Sweet Charity' to Show at Northport's Engeman Theater

Neil Simon's story of Times Square Dance Hall Performer Charity Hope Valentine and her romantic ups and downs.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union will partner with the for a presentation of Neil Simon's “Sweet Charity,” running from Sept. 6 through Oct. 28.

With a book by Neil Simon, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and music by Cy Coleman, “Sweet Charity” earned seven Tony Awards when first produced on Broadway. Based on Federico Fellini’s “Nights of Cabiria” screenplay, it tells the story of Times Square Dance Hall Performer Charity Hope Valentine and her romantic ups and downs, and features the hit songs, “If My Friends Could See Me Now” and “Big Spender.”

Regular evening performances will be Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 7 p.m. Matinee Performances will be Saturdays at 3 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $65, but can be purchased for $60 per person when using a special “BETHPAGE” promotional code available by visiting www.lovebethpage.com. Ticket sales help raise money for United Way of Long Island’s "Operation Live United" campaign, which benefits Long Island’s Military Family Assistance Project.  For every ticket bought with the promotional code, the John W. Engeman Theater will donate $10 to Operation Live United.
