Plays, Concerts, Dance Pack Festival

Summer arts festival kicks off June 27.

If you like dance, they've got it. Or maybe you like old-fashioned band music played at a gazebo. The Huntington Arts Council will offer that, too.

The 48th annual summer arts festival is about to get underway, with a lineup packed with jazz, Broadway plays, community bands, barbershop quartets, choruses, soloists, Indian classical and tap dance, 40 concerts in all.

It's family night on Tuesdays, with families welcome to bring a picnic basket and their children in their PJ's; performances start at 7:30 p.m.  Among the performances are “Camp Rock, The Musical," Freckleface Strawberry” and Hot Peas ‘N Butter.

Broadway shows. "The Sound of Music"  and the new "Monty Python’s Spamalot" will be presented, and two community bands will perform throughout the festival.

The festival kicks off June 27 with the 100-member Huntington Men's Chorus and ends Aug. 11 with Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, a Cajun band. Riley won a Grammy award this year.

Canon USA is the main sponsor, with support from the New York State Council on the Arts and Suffolk County, along with Astoria Federal Savings, Daniel Gale Sotheby, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, NYS DanceForce, Phillips Boyne, D’Addario & Co., King Kullen, and Korg USA.
