Classical Music Concert

The Northport Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Hyman, will present a free concert on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 8:00 P. M., featuring flutist Megan Lyons, who will play the Piccolo Concerto in C Major by Antonio Vivaldi.  The Orchestra will also perform works by Bach, Cimarosa, Faure, and Beethoven.

Ms. Lyons is currently a junior at Harborfields High School.  She began studying the flute eight years ago, and added the piccolo to her studies four years later.  She plays in a variety of musical ensembles in her school and has represented the school at both the Suffolk County Music Educator’s Association festival and the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education festival as a member of the symphony orchestra.  Additionally, Megan is a member of the Long Island Youth Orchestra, where she plays both flute and piccolo.  She currently studies with Marianne Vandermeersch and Dr. Susan Deaver, and plans to continue her musical studies in college.
