Northport Holiday Tree Lighting

Merrymakers gather in each year on the Friday night after Thanksgiving for the annual lighting of the evergreen at the far south end of Northport Village Park, above the 9/11 memorial rock and plaque. This year will be no different. The festivities are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

After the crowd counts down from ten, the current mayor and usually a youngster or two flip the oversized power switch that turns on the thousands of colored lights been strung from the Norway Spruce.

The chamber also sponsors free hot chocolate and the fire department delivers Santa and Mrs. Claus and a wide range of other holiday characters including the Grinch and the Gingerbread Man. The reindeer missing for several years will be back this year, as well.

The 30-foot Norway Spruce placed at the foot of Main Street was donated this year by Frank and Justine Cavagnaro.
