Boy Scouts VP, Northport Resident Dies at 54

Northport resident Anthony Stupore, Vice President for the Suffolk County Council of Boy Scouts of America, died in his sleep Thursday. He was 54 years old.

Stupore’s involvement with the Boy Scouts began in 2003 when he became a member of the council’s executive board and in 2004 was elected to serve as a council vice president. For two years, beginning in 2008, he served as the council president and was instrumental in the council achieving Centennial Quality Council in 2009. Until his passing Stupore was serving as a council vice president and executive board member. 

Public Hearings Set on Bamboo; Telecommunications Sys.

Public hearings will be held Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. to discuss Northport Village’s proposed laws on bamboo control and telecommunications systems.

The bamboo controls in the village aim to protect private property from the damaging spread of certain bamboo grasses and protect indigenous plant materials from the spread of running bamboo. The law is similar to that, which was passed in Huntington.

Two Northport Businesses Close
Northport’s 1019 Café on Fort Salonga Road and Costermonger on Main Street are now closed. However, the home goods store, known around town as, “The Barn,” will continue as an online shop.

Robbery at Northport CVS
Two men robbed a CVS store in Northport Saturday, demanding cash from the manager and threatening that they had a gun, while customers were in the building, according to Northport police.
