Mayoka Will Retire From Politics
Republican town councilman Mark Mayoka announced that he will be ending his political career this week, after taking a loss in Tuesday's election. He wrote a letter to residents, thanking them for their support over the years.

Gunther Ousts Naughton in Highway Superintendent Race

Peter Gunther upset William Naughton’s 25-year-reign as highway superintendent in the Town of Huntington Tuesday night by 960 votes.

Gunther, 57, a retired New York City firefighter, a fire commissioner for the Centerport Fire District and a volunteer for its fire department, was the only winner among Huntington’s Republican candidates within the town races.

Gunter won the race with 51 percent of the 35,871 votes.

Petrone Re-Elected Supervisor
Town Supervisor Frank Petrone was re-elected by a narrow margin Tuesday night, fending off a sharp challenge from Gene Cook to win his fifth term as Huntington's chief executive.

Voters also re-elected Mark Cuthbertson, the top vote-getter in Town Board elections, and added Tracey Edwards, while ousting Republican Mark Mayoka, and turned down Josh Price, also running as a Republican for Town Board.

Spencer Re-Elected to County Legislature
Democrat William "Doc" Spencer was re-elected to the Suffolk County Legislature Tuesday. 

Spencer was first elected to office in 2011 and became the first physician to serve in the legislature since its inception in 1960. Spencer is chairman of the Legislature’s Health Committee.

Billy Baldwin Visits Northport to Accept $32G Check for Cancer Research
Billy Baldwin turned up in Northport Saturday to accept a $32,000 check from the Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club to support the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, of which he serves as president.
