Pearl Harbor Survivor Honored with Bench at Local Park

Frank Minnock has seen a lot in his 93 years, 30 of which were spent serving his country in three wars: World War II, Korean and Vietnam 

Minnock’s dedication to his country was recognized Sunday in a special Veterans Day event, in which a bench was dedicated in his name at Veterans Memorial Plaza at John Walsh Park in his hometown of East Northport.

State Ed Commish Slammed in Common Core Forum

A crowd of 1,200 people filled the auditorium of Ward Melville High School for a two-hour long event that harshly criticized the Common Core curriculum, its implementation and high stakes testing among other things.

Huntington Woman Infected With West Nile

A Huntington woman was infected with the West Nile virus, but is recovering, the Suffolk County Health Department reported Tuesday.

The woman, who is 50, became ill in October and was hospitalized.

She was the third human case of West Nile reported in Suffolk County this year, the department said.

Northport's First Snow of the Season
Winter doesn't officially start for another month, but Northport saw its first snowfall Tuesday, which left a light dusting around town.

The temperatures took a major dip Tuesday, as well. The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning for Long Island from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
