Time to Hit 'the Slope'

Mad rush for Crab Meadow Golf Course causes post snowstorm traffic jam on Oceanside Court.

After digging out from Sunday's blizzard, Northporters were clearly ready for a little fun. Despite howling winds and freezing temperatures, many took advantage of the snow day on Monday to be with friends and family in a traditional winter activity in Northport – sledding on the golf course slope.

In fact, the pastime proved so popular that traffic jams abounded, with some residents of Oceanside Court unable to leave because of the number of parked cars lining the street. At one point, a car had to be pushed out of the way in order to allow a line of waiting cars from Oceanside to get through.  Even a snow plow was stuck behind waiting cars for several minutes.

But parking woes failed to dampen spirits as sledders parked down by Waterside Road  and trudged up the hill. The Lynches were one family who joined in the action. Nolan and his little sister Alexis were bundled for the weather and took a few turns down the hill with Mom and Dad, until Nolan announced quite pointedly,  "I want the wind to stop!" Then it was time to head back home for some hot chocolate and a warm blanket.

Other hardy souls remained on the slopes until the last rays of sunlight faded. With temperatures predicted to be in the 30s for the next several days, the golf course will likely  be a destination for many for the rest of this holiday week.
