The Week Ahead: Summer Concerts; Hurricane Preparedness

Here's what's happening this week in and around Northport.

Hurricane Preparedness & Safety Program
Assemb. Andrew Raia, R-East Northport, presents a course on Hurricane Safety and Preparedness in conjunction with the Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management on July 23 at 7 p.m. No registration required.

Northport Community Band Concert in the Park
Guest conductor Tom Gellert will lead the Northport COmmunity band in their fourth concert of the summer music series at the Village Bandstand in Village Park on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a non-perishable food item to the concert, if you can. Thursday's concert is sponsored by the Northport & East Northport Rotary.

'The Alturus Duo' Performs at Northport Library
The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation with the Library, presents The Alturas Duo, one of the most engaging ensembles performing in the chamber music world today on Friday at 7:39 p.m. This unique Duo was formed with the idea of bringing the unusual combination of viola, charango, and guitar together to create passionate music that moves at ease between Baroque and South American folk rhythms. The Alturas Duo has performed throughout Canada, South America, and the United States including recitals at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and the Smithsonian Institute. A meet-the-artists reception will follow.

Happenings on Main Street
It's open mic night at Happenings on Main Street Friday at 7 p.m. Each Friday through August, a musical act will perform at the foot of Main Street near the dock, bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy a free show.

Poets in Port
Featured poet George Wallace will read some of his poetry at Caffe Portofino on Main Street. The audience is encouraged to bring their poems and participate in an open session.
