Runners Ready for Cow Harbor 10K

About 5,5000 runners will participate in the 36th annual run.

Nearly 5,500 runners will take off today in the 36th annual Great Cow Harbor 10-Kilometer Run and 2-Kilometer Fun Run/Walk.

Approximately 25,000 spectators will be cheering and rooting the runners along as they make their way through Northport Village in the town's biggest event of the year.

"Cow Harbor is really all about the hometown. It's all about the attitude of the town. Everyone comes out and loves every minute of it," Bill Flemming, of the racing committee, said.

Back this year is Mo Trafeh, of California, who is looking to take his fifth consecutive win. Trafeh, 28, posted a race record in 2011 after finishing the 10K in 28 minutes and 17 seconds.

"When he runs, it's amazing," Flemming said.

Alisha Williams, the reigning female champ is also back to defend her first place title. Williams, 31, posted a time of 33 minutes in last year's race.
