'Once Upon a Time in Northport' Winners Congratulated

Annual student art and writing contest celebrates the area's history.

The winners of Northport Historical Society's annual 'Once Upon a Time in Northport' student art and writing contest were congratulated in a ceremony Sunday.

This is the fifth annual contest and the theme required students to imagine that they could travel back in time as in HG Wells' book, The Time Machine.  Whom would they have liked to have met? Was there a past event in local history that they would have liked to have attended?

The winners who attended included Giana Cavagnaro, Kyra Sciallo, Chase McGill, Katie Meadows, Elizabeth Shields, Clare Barbato and Corrie Kavanaugh.

Library Trustee and Society member Bob Little, author of “Snapshots in Time: Tales of Our Community,” regaled the standing room-only crowd with historical tidbits as part of the ceremony.

A record number of students participated this year.
