Northport's Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 23-29

Alice and Wonderland, Jr., Elwoodstock 2011 and Dodgeball — pick and choose from this week's array of events.

Welcome to our Grab & Go Kids Planner, a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities in the Northport area. Each week, we'll give you the info on the best family activities or events for the week. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just log in to Patch and add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. We want to hear from you.

Why Go: For the younger kids, there is always Children’s Story-time taking place on Thursday at the Barnes & Noble store in East Northport. At the event, staff members read cherished classics to the attending kids.

Where/When:; Wednesday, 7 pm.
Why Go: Here’s an event for the young, budding artists. They will present its Elwoodstock 2011, a battle of the bands that features a group of local bands all competing for a chance to play at the upcoming Faculty Battle of the Bands.

Where/When: ; Saturday and Sunday.
Why Go: Check out the pros. Take the family to a performance the John W. Engenman Theater in Northport.

Where/When:; Friday, 7:30 pm- 10 pm.
Why Go: An event that’s sure to get your kids’ hearts pumping, take the family to Sportime at Kings Park on Friday for the 7th and 8th Grade Dodgeball tournament. Many of the teams have already been formed, but don’t worry. You’re child will be placed on a team if he or she doesn’t have one already. Just make sure they know how to duck.
