Artifacts from the Railroad Museum of Long Island to be featured.

The Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead and Greenport are both closed until spring, but the will feature artifacts in a new exhibit starting in January and running through May in the Museum Cove area located in the lower level children's area.

The exhibit gives the chance for the museum to help the public further understand the history and reasoning for the and why it was so important for the development of Long Island.

The exhibit features Northport and the surrounding towns through photos and artifacts and includes a large selection of photos from the museum's collection with a display case full of Long Island Rail Road artifacts tincluding hats, flags and whistles available for little engineers to try on.

Don Fisher and Anthony DeBellis from the Railroad Museum of Long Island set up the exhibit, and Liz Englert and Janet Naideau of the library set up the photos and coordinated the exhibit with the museum.

The Museum is also hosting "All Aboard for Model Trains" in the Museum Cove on Saturday, Jan. 15 and Sunday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  and 1 to 5 p.m., respectively.
