Updated: No School Wednesday, LIRR on Weekend Schedule

The is operating on a weekend schedule as the freezing rain and sleet created problems on the tracks. Peak fares are in effect, however. Station waiting rooms will remain open round-the-clock through normal hours on Thursday.

The National Weather Service continued to warn of extremely hazardous driving conditions and said that moderate freezing rain mixed with sleet will continue to make travel dangerous.

district Superintendent Marylou McDermott announced that, due to the winter storm warning all afternoon and evening activities including the 5th grade parent meeting on human development and personal health will be cancelled. The afternoon SCOPE program will be operating, however.

The Town of Huntington has postponed its honoring of the John Glenn Football Team, and the John Glenn Girls Volleyball Team, both of which won the Long Island Championship for their respective sports. Thank you to Jerry Hannon for that information. The regularly scheduled board meeting will still take place at 7 p.m., however. The agenda is attached to this article.

The Northport Village Board still plans to hold

All Eaton's Neck Youth Club basketball games and practices are cancelled for tonight.

Elwood kindergarten registration snowed out Friday, Jan. 28 has been rescheduled for March 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the middle school.
