Heavy Winds Knock Out Power

LIPA says about 2,000 customers around Huntington have lost service.

Strong winds and rain knocked out power Friday morning to about 2,000 customers in Huntington.

Northport was the hardest hit, according to LIPA, with more than 1,000 losing service. Outages were also reported in Commack, Dix Hills and West Hills.

LIPA said it had it had crews working to assess and repair outages. The utility said it expects to have power estored in about five hours.

Customers are asked to report downed wires at 1-800-490-0075.

"We are fully prepared to respond & extra crews will be working throughout the day to restore power to all customers affected by this storm," LIPA said on Twitter.

I'm glad their repairs after Sandy were so effective.

Gale force winds do damage.

You're right, Jason. Wind does cause damage. Especially when added to the damage caused by years and years of incompetent management and lazy and selfish unions. If management and labor had done their jobs over the years, perhaps the occasional high winds wouldn't take out power to LI neighborhoods?
