Halloween Hayride Sunday

Enjoy rides, pumpkin painting, treats and more.

Halloween festivities will take off Sunday in Northport with a Halloween Hayride, sponsored by the Northport Chamber of Commerce.

Hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of the event last year so residents can expect the activities to return in full force this weekend.

Starting at noon Sunday, in Northport Village Park, residents can enjoy a Halloween hayride, pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, treats and participate in a costume contest with prizes. DJ Tom Bruno will be keeping the beat going all day.

The costume contest starts at 2 p.m. The first place winner will receive four tickets to the John Engeman Children's Theater. The second prize is $40 in Northport Dollars and the third prize is $20 in Northport Dollars.

Admission is $5 per person. Refreshments will be provided by Copenhagen Bakery.

Also at noon sunday is the Paws for a Cause charity walk, sponsored by both the Northport and East Northport Chambers of commerce, as well as the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk, in which pets and their owners will strut their stuff down Main Street. Costume contests, including owner.dog look alike, funniest dog, cutest puppy and most original children and doggie costumes, will be at 11:30 a.m. There is a $25 fee to participate in the walk, which will benefit the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk.
