Get Out! Northport's Weekend Planner for August 5-7

Fundraisers, music, and more. Pick and choose from this weekend's variety of events.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-with-work-I'm-outta-here time. Check out our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.


Where/When: ; Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Why Go: Alex Torres and his Latin orchestra perform a mix of Salsa, Merengue and Latin Jazz. Bring a picnic and blanket for a romantic evening in the courtyard of the Vanderbilt Museum. Pricing: Advance tickets are $25, $30 at the gate. Dance lessons are $5 per person and children under 8 are free.


Where/When: ; Friday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Why Go: To help raise money for breast cancer research while enjoying great music from The Story Avenue Band, raffles, prizes and more. Pricing: $20 per person.


Where/When: ; Friday at 7:30 p.m. Why Go: An evening of opera and chamber music. Listen to the magnificent music filling the aisles. Pricing: $5 suggested donation.


Where/When: Heckscher Park; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Why Go: Enjoy live music and entertainment all day and all night. The festival opens with an hour-long open mic at 11 a.m. and follows with a line up of fantastic performances straight through to 11 p.m. Pricing: Free admission.


Where/When: ; Saturday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (pizza eating contest starts at 2 p.m.) Why Go: Get ready to eat lots of pizza to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Children's Cancer Foundation. Teams of two, who have raised $100, are eligible to enter the contest. Pricing: Your generous donation.
