Billy Baldwin Thanks Northport for Cancer Research Funding

Actor Billy Baldwin sent a video message to residents, thanking them for supporting his mother's breast cancer research fund.

Actor Billy Baldwin created a video, thanking Northport and the Cow Harbor Cow Harbor United Soccer Club for its work to raise money for breast cancer research.

The Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club will hold its Columbus Day weekend tournament this weekend to help support Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, located at Stony Brook University Medical Center. The fund is named for Baldwin's mother. Last year, the tournament, in which the players wear pink socks to show off their support for the cause, raised $32,000.

"I think it's awesome that you want to instill this value to the young kids in the community to be of service, pay it forward, give something back and what better way to do it than to raise awareness and finance a grant that may ultimately lead to a cure for breast cancer," Baldwin said.

"From the bottom of my heart and my entire family, thank you so much to everybody in Northport," he added.

The tournament, which features 380 teams including boys and girls divisions from U07 to High School, will take place Oct. 12 and 13.

Baldwin also shared some wise words for the players.

"Remember to those young athletes out there: excellent sportsmanship and always honor the game," he said.
