The Suffolk County Department of Health reopened and this weekend after water samples tested clean. The beaches were shut down on July 18 after unsafe levels of Enterococci bacteria, normally found in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals, were found in unsafe levels at both beaches.
Water samples were taken every day of the closure, said Suffolk Department of Health Spokesperson Grace Kelly-McGovern, and the water will continue to be tested throughout the summer.
All other beach bathing advisories, commonly issued after a large storm causes a deluge of runoff into waterways, have been lifted in the Town of Huntington. There are no closures, although may bring large amounts of runoff.
