5 Family Things to Do on Winter Break

A look at things to do around Northport and East Northport with the family.

This winter break, students in the Northport-East Northport School district are off until Jan. 2. With the kids home, here are some ideas to get out of the house and have some fun.

Larkfield Lanes
Let the games begin at Larkfield Lanes (332 Larkfield Rd., East Northport). The bowling alley has dollar games, shoes and sodas starting at 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday with a $6 cover charge. Hourly bowling is also available during the day.

Movies
Elwood Cinemas also has several films playing this week including the newly released Walking With Dinosaurs 2D, Book Thief, Frozen 2D, Dallas Buyers Club, American Hustle and The Hobbit.

Shopping
Now that Christmas is over, lines and waiting in stores is a bit more manageable. Between Northport's Main Street and Fort Solanga Road, as well as Jericho Turnpike in East Northport, there's no shortage of stores in town. Pick up a belated-Christmas gift or just treat yourself and the family going into the new year with all of those gift certificates you got during the holidays.

See a Show
Take the family to see a live show at John W. Engeman Theater. The theater will be showing 'Frosty' and Irving Berlin's 'White Christmas' until Jan. 5.

Enjoy the Views
Bundle up, pack a lunch and head down to the Northport dock to take in the waterfront views. Bring a frisbee or football and get in some family play time too.
