To the Editor,
It is my understanding that both Verizon and Cablevision will not automatically credit telephone, internet and cable TV customers who lost service as a result of Hurricane Sandy. My understanding is that a customer will receive a credit only if they had reported the disruption and the credit will be computed from the time the disruption was reported to the time the service was re-established. This policy is unconscionable on two levels. Given that these two corporations are in the “Communications and Technology” industry they know, or should know exactly which customers were without service and for how long? Furthermore, both of these corporations are well aware that those customers who lost telephone, cable TV and internet service were also without electric and therefore incapable of reporting outages. Should these two corporations pursue their insensitive and outrageous billing policies perhaps we should all meet at the Northport gazebo and burn our Verizon and Cablevision bills as a form of protest?
