College Scholarships Available to Students From Italian-American Legislative Group

New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is currently accepting applications.

Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C-East Northport) announced that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is currently accepting applications from residents of the 9th Assembly District, which includes parts of the Towns of Huntington, Babylon and Islip. The deadline for submission is Friday, April 27 and winners will be awarded their scholarships in June at the group’s Annual Conference.

This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding one academic and one athletic scholarship of $1,500. The scholarships are available to high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students. Eligibility will be based upon a student’s grade-point average, an interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need.

“It’s important to help hard-working students meet their required education expenses with scholarships,” Raia said. “The right to a higher education should not be hindered due to rising costs. I’m truly committed to higher education and I thank the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators for their support of students in the 9th Assembly District.”

Applications can be obtained by contacting Assemblyman Raia’s district office at 631-261-4151 or by visiting the office at 75 Woodbine Ave., Second Floor Northport, NY. Please mail or hand deliver completed applications to the District Office at Woodbine Ave.
