Art created by district elementary school students enlivens Village Hall

The Northport Arts Coalition, in cooperation with the Northport-East Northport School District, will proudly host an opening reception for the first Village Hall Art Show featuring the work of elementary school-age students, NAC Executive Director Daniel Paige said. The reception, which features the work of students from all six elementary schools, will take place from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, May 19.

“All are invited to attend and view these wonderful, lively, colorful works of art created by children as young as kindergarteners,” said Lauren Paige, former NAC Executive Director, said, adding guests will enjoy classical music as they peruse the exhibit.

“There are a total of 26 pieces on display at the Village Hall; some of them are group projects so the total number of students involved is 53,” said Julia Lang-Shapiro, District Chairperson of the Arts. Ms. Lang Shapiro said that she is delighted with the collaboration with NAC, and the opportunities that the not-for-profit arts organization has provided for local students.

“This is the first year we have had more than one art show with the Northport Arts Coalition at the Village Hall. Usually we have just the high school art show, but this year we hosted a middle school show that just came down and now the elementary one is up through June. So over 100 students from Northport-East Northport schools have had their work featured at the Village Hall," Lang-Shapiro said. “We are very excited to expand the opportunities for exhibiting art, and it is so exciting for the students to see their work framed and hanging in such a public place. I hope the judges who use the courtroom have enjoyed seeing the work from our talented students grace their walls. We look forward to continuing these displays next year.”

Village Hall is located at 224 Main Street, Northport Village. The show runs through mid-June, and can also be viewed during regular Village Hall business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. For more information please call 631-262-6675.
