Northport Remembers 9/11

A candlelight vigil will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at the East Northport Fire Department.

It has been 12 years since the Sept. 11 attacks. Today, Northport remembers those whose lives were lost that day and pledges to never forget the tragedy of 9/11.

Here's what you need to know about today's remembrance event:

  • The East Northport Fire Department will hold a memorial ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the firehouse, located at 1 9th Ave., East Northport. A candlelight vigil will also be held at 8 p.m. at the firehouse.
  • During the ceremony, firefighters will read off the names of those who perished in the attacks.
  • The Village of Northport recently dedicated a plaque over the weekend to veterans who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars after 9/11.
