Funeral Viewing for Northport's Music Man

A look at what's happening today in Northport.

Today in Northport, we are saddened to report that music legend Bob Krueger, the school district's first Director of Music Education and the founder and director of the Northport Community Band, died Monday.

Krueger celebrated his 86th birthday in late May and recently finished conducting his 55th consecutive season with the band, making him the longest-serving founder and conductor of a community band in America.

A viewing will be held today and Friday, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Brueggemann Funeral Home, 522 Larkfield Rd., East Northport, NY 11731

Also, residents should take caution when heading out today. Summer maybe fading away, but the mosquitos are not. More mosquitoes in the Huntington area have tested positive for the West Nile virus, Suffolk County reported Monday. Commissioner James Tomarken said that 22 mosquito samples have tested positive for the virus.
