Empty In Northport: Former Blockbuster

What would you like to see in place of this vacant property?

Drive down 25A or Main Street and you will notice some vacant storefronts adorned with "For Rent" signs, a possible indication of the hard times the area — and country — are facing. Northport Patch will spotlight empty properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab abandoned places. This week we're highlighting the former location of Blockbuster Video at 745 Fort Salonga Road in the CVS shopping center. The location closed in April of 2011 after the company filed bankruptcy. What would you like to see in place of this vacant property? Tell us in the comments.

Long Ireland Brews With Blind Bat for Saison Bottle Release

"Collabration Saison Ale" being released on Monday in four separate locations across Long Island.

Just in time for Long Island Craft Beer Week, Long Ireland Beer Company is putting out its third bottle release on Friday, a collaborative effort with Centerport-based Blind Bat Brewery. Dubbed Collaboration Saison Ale, the French farmhouse-style beer, brewed with a standard coriander flavor, offers drinkers a balance of yeasty and fruity esters while packing 6.6 percent alcohol by volume, a slightly heavier ABV for a typical saison. After putting out 4,500 Double India Pale Ale bottles in February, the 2,500-batch of saisons came about naturally after Long Ireland owners Greg Martin and Dan Burke found themselves previously collaborating with Blind Bat owner Paul Dlugokencky in ways that didn't involve brewing.
