Northport Police Report: Criminal Mischief; Vestibule Rescue

Arrests and incidents, Feb. 17-20.

 

The following information was taken from the Northport Police Department blotter.

  • Police and fire departments responded to a woman trapped in the vestibule of a Fort Salonga Road business around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 after she pulled the fire alarm to summon a rescue effort. The woman had gotten locked inside when the exit door and the door to the office locked behind her and was eventually freed after Northport Fire Department personnel removed the lock to the exit door. She later went back in to the office to get her belongings after someone with the keys stopped by.
  • A car reportedly struck a tree which went through the window of a building on Main Street on Feb. 17 around 10:20 a.m. A witness says the driver and passenger got out to survey the damage, then left. Northport Highway Department was notified to remove the village-owned tree which had been split in half.
  • Police responded to a report of a customer refusing to pay his bill at a Fort Salonga Road business on Feb. 17 around 10:30 p.m. The man agreed to pay once the police arrived.
  • An Ocean Ave man claimed that someone removed an artificial Christmas tree located on the side of his house on Feb. 17 and placed it on the roof of his car. He believes his next door neighbor may be responsible.
  • Someone broke the garage door window pane of a Burt Avenue residence on Feb. 18.
  • An anonymous caller reported youths hitting rocks with a golf club down a hill off Main Street on Feb. 20, though the area was clear when police arrived.
  • Three residents of a Doris Avenue home were taken to the hospital by Northport Rescue on Feb. 20 around 10 p.m. after a Carbon Monoxide alarm went off, alerting Northport Fire Department personnel and police.
