Northport Police Report: Cursing Neighbors; Pointing Lasers

Arrests and incidents, April 11-17.

The following was taken from the blotter. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Suffolk Police arrested Duong Cho, 58, of Elmont after a traffic stop on April 16 and turned him over to the custody of the Northport Police when it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. He was released on $250 cash bail.
  • Police responded to Laurel Avenue for an anonymous report of an intoxicated male on a bench at 5:37 p.m. on April 11. Upon arrival, the man stated he had too much to drink and was unable to drive his vehicle. The officer escorted him to a nearby relative's house.
  • A taxi driver flagged down a police officer along Main Street on April 14 at 4:12 a.m. and said she had an intoxicated male in the cab, who wouldn't pay or tell her where he lived. The man exited the cab and proceeded to pay the driver $15, of a $20 fare, when the driver of the cab yelled at the officer and the man and drove away without collecting the remaining fare. The officer gave the man a ride to West Street and Waterside Avenue at his request, and subsequently to his residence. The officer contacted Islandwide Taxi and advised dispatcher of the incident.
  • A boy was reportedly making holes to use his metal detector near Constitution Square with his parent standing nearby on April 14. An anonymous complainant said the holes made could be a hazard. An officer checked the area and the boy and parent were gone upon arrival. No damage to village property could be located.
  • Police responded to location regarding an anonymous report of a loud party at Dolphin Lane around 2:25 a.m. on April 15. The officer spoke with both residents and advised them of the complaint and requested that they tone it down for the evening. On his way out, the officer heard a resident shouting obscenities at the houses surrounding his from the backyard. The officer went into the backyard told the residents that continued yelling of obscenities would result in possible legal issues that the resident had not anticipated. The police later returned to Dolphin Lane around 3:02 a.m. after receiving an anonymous call of the resident confronting a neighbor and accusing him of calling the police. The officer remained in the area to be sure the peace was maintained.
  • Police were advised that a man was singing and playing the guitar with an amplifier without a permit in front of the a Main Street business during Art Walk on April 15. After a brief investigation it was determined that the subject was playing under the auspices of the Northport Chamber of Commerce. It was decided by the village clerk to allow the subject to play for this date only.
  • Police responded to Ocean Avenue on April 15 to investigate a report of a traveling game/video arcade parked and soliciting business. Upon arrival, the officer interviewed the subject who stated that he had rented the services of Gamin' Ride for his son's twelfth birthday party and the gaming services were not open to the public. The officer advised the man that he was on school property without authorization and he agreed to cease the activities.
  • Police responded to a Laurel Avenue residence for the report of a youth pointing a laser pointer at his television on April 17. The officer located the parent of the subject who was pointing the laser. The subject was warned and admonished on hers son's behavior.
  • extinguished a brush fire in the wooded area behind Franklin Street known as "Sunset Hill" on April 17.
