Dogs and their owners turned out in the spirit of Halloween and good will on Sunday for the Paws for a Cause dog walk and costume contest to benefit the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) Hospice House in East Northport.

The event, presented jointly by the Northport Chamber of Commerce, the East Northport Chamber of Commerce, and the VNSHS, saw dozens of dogs outfitted with Halloween Costumes ranging from punks and princesses to hot dogs and donuts compete for pluckiest pooch.

Contestants met for the costume contest at the VNHSHS on Main Street prior to a parade down to Village Park. The grand prize went to Debbie Poznack-Olsen and her dog, Gina, for raising the most money; first prize went to Nikky Martin and her dog, Mike, dressed as a baker and a doughnut; second prize went to Gary Zelner and his Golden Retriever dressed as Amelia Earhart; and third prize went to Darlene Turpel and her Pug dressed in a "When Pigs Fly" theme.
