Updated: Northport Schools CLOSED Monday and Tuesday

Superintendent revokes decision to open schools, no bus transportation available.

Elwood Schools are CLOSED Mondat and Tuesday.

From the District website: All after school activities will be cancelled including the PTA Reflections event. On Tuesday, school will be closed for superintendent's conference day, as previously scheduled. The Superintendent hopes that all schools will be open on Wednesday Nov 6. He will make this decision no later than 5 pm Tuesday evening and inform you of same soon thereafter.  This decision will be influenced by local road conditions which must allow for the safe transport of students on our school  buses, along with our staff's ability to commute to work. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we try and move toward normalcy. Please check the district website for any updates.

Northport-East Northport School District Superintendent Marylou McDermott reportedly issued a ConnectEd call to parents revoking her initial decision to reopen schools Monday and Tuesday.

According to parents reporting on Northport Patch and Facebook, the ConnectEd message said schools are now CLOSED Monday and Tuesday. The school district reportedly revoked the decision after becoming aware that it is illegal to open public schools without bus service.

School will resume for the Northport-East Northport School District on Monday and Tuesday, despite a continuing gas shortage and residents still in the dark from Hurricane Sandy. Bus transportation will not be available.

Elwood School District hopes to reopen schools, but is still evaluating conditions. We will update you once we hear back.

Parents have voiced concern over Northport Superintendent Marylou McDermott's decision to reopen schools, citing dangerous road conditions and gas shortages that may prevent some from driving their children. Some students will reportedly have to be relocated to other schools due to continuing power outages.
