Hofstra Inducts Northporter into Sports Hall

Former All-American baseball player Greg Polli inducted into Hofstra Sports Hall of Fame.

Northport resident Greg Polli was one of seven Class of 2013 inductees selected Friday for Hofstra University's Sports Hall of Fame.

Polli, a baseball player from 1983-86, still holds the school's single-season slugging percentage record, a .950 mark in 1985. He was named an All-American that season after batting .496.

Polli, a Hicksville native, ranks seventh all-time in NCAA Division I with a career .416 batting average.

He was East Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1985 and finished his career with 140 RBIs.

The group will be inducted at the 2013 Athletics Hall of Fame Luncheon at the Hofstra University Club on April 13 at 4 p.m.
