Fun and Sun at First 2011 Northport ArtWalk; Next on May 15

First one of the season draws brings more than 1,000 to the Village. The event is one of a series and the next is May 15.

Last Sunday, as sunny skies prevailed, the drew more than 1,000 visitors to the Village.

The collaboration between the and the showcased the work of more than 20 artists at boutiques and shops scattered around town.

Lisa Harris, owner of , said that she conceived of the idea after reading about a similar venture in California.

“I thought it would be fun to do, and try out in Northport,” Harris said, adding that she looks forward to “seeing people get excited about art.”

“It was very successful for merchants and artists alike,” NAC Executive Director Daniel Paige said of the event whose orchestration began in October.

Sunday’s happenings included self-guided tours of the work of established and emerging artists as well as musical entertainment and art demonstrations. 

“It will only get better,” Paige said of the ongoing series of monthly artwalks  that will take place through September.  To add to the fun on Sunday,  guests who visited every venue and had their forms stamped were eligible for the grand prize raffle drawing, which in this case was a party package donated by Loeber Tents.

The next Artwalk, scheduled to take place on May 15, will feature new as well as returning artists, but with a twist.

“We are going to mix it up,”Paige said. “Artists will be at different venues and they will be displaying different work.”
