ENFD Senior Member LeRoy "Roy" Kennedy Passes Away at 91

Kennedy was a member of the East Northport Fire Department for 64 years.

Friends and family remembered East Northport resident LeRoy J. "Roy" Kennedy at St. Anthony of Padua Church this morning after he passed away on July 12, 2012 at the age of 91.

Born in Northport, he was the beloved husband of the late Joy (nee Philp) for 55 years. Loving father of Roy (Linda), Richard (Marie) and Michael (Kathleen), and the Late Kathleen. Cherished grandfather of Shawn & Robert, Corinne & Patrick, Michael, Kaitlyn, Kyle & Sean. Dear great grandfather of Jordan, Jacob, Joseph, Jenna, Daniel, Aspen and Alexis, according to Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home.

Kennedy was a WWII veteran and served with the US Air Force B 29 Group in the Pacific Theatre. He worked as a Superintendant of construction with LILCO for 38 years, responsible for construction of infrastructure across the island, including sub stations, generating units, and miles of steel lines.

Kennedy was a member of the for 64 years, served as Chief from 1960-1962, served as Fire Commissioner for 10 years, and was elected Fireman of the Year in in 1988, 1998, and 2008.

He was a member of the international Fire Chief Association, Charter member of Southern NY Volunteer Fireman's Association. Member of Town of Huntington Fire Chief's Council. Charter member of Father Judge Council 6893 Knights of Columbus. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Parish Outreach and usher for 65 years. Member of Executive board Senior Citizens Town of Huntington, and member of the Larkfield Unit.
