Empty in East Northport: Former Eddy's Trailer Sales

Eye sore recently sold, but plans remain a mystery.* [Editor's Note]

*Editor's Note: Patch was contacted by Lynn Fornuff, CFO of 4005 Jericho Turnpike Corp. on April 17 and informed that the property has not been sold, despite Ripco Properties' original claims to the contrary. She added that ongoing negotiations prohibit her from providing additional details at this time. Ripco Properties declined to comment.

"That abandoned yellow house on Jericho Turnpike," is all you need to say for instant recognition of the eye sore that has long plagued one of East Northport's main thoroughfares. Once the site of Eddy's Trailer Sales, the little cottage between Commack Animal Hospital and Russo Bros. Auto Body at 4005 Jericho Turnpike has been neglected for years, sporting boarded windows, a collapsed roof, and a landscaping of weeds and garbage.

Well, someone bought it.

Listing manager Ripco Properties has not yet said who purchased the 45,000 square foot plot two months ago or shed light on plans for its future, though Patch has left a message with the broker. The Town Building Department will have information on the new owner once the deed is recorded with the County.

The former owner continued to pay taxes on the property in its state of disrepair after his business moved to a new location in Medford a few years ago, said a source at a neighboring business. Attempts to locate him were unfruitful and his relocated RV sales business in Medford has been taken over by a new owner who could not supply contact information.

4005 Jericho Turnpike was not on the town's list of blighted properties whose owner's were recently ordered to clean up or pay up. Buyers of blighted properties could receive a 25 percent reduction of certain fees under new legislation passed by the town board in July.

What would you like to see in place of this eye sore? Tell us in the comments.

Another Walmart. The illegals in Huntington station need another place to shop.
