Bank robberies in Huntington and Plainview, felony DUI in Commack, car break-ins in Hauppauge, and donation theft in Massapequa.

Huntington

The TD Bank on Jericho Turnpike was robbed Oct.18 about 5 p.m.

Police gave the following account:

A man entered the bank at 1040 Jericho Turnpike about 5 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding cash and threatening to use a gun. The teller complied with the demands and the man fled the scene on foot south on Dix Hills Road.

The amount of money taken was not known.

The subject is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and wearing a dark-colored long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers, dark sunglasses and a white Nike hat.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Investigations Unit detectives are investigating. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

Plainview

Nassau Police Department's Robbery Squad is investigating the that occurred in Plainview on Oct. 18 at 4:20 p.m.

According to detectives, a man, about 25, 6-feet tall, wearing a green pullover sweater, blue jeans, sunglasses and a white Nike logo baseball style cap entered the located at 404 Woodbury Road and handed a demand note to a teller. The subject left the bank without any proceeds and was observed walking through the parking lot westbound towards South Oyster Bay Road. There were ten employees and four customers present at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

Detectives are requesting anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls are confidential and all callers will remain anonymous.

Commack

Suffolk County police arrested a Nesconset man Oct. 21 on charges of driving drunk while having his two-year-old son in the car.

Christopher Weiss, 29, is charged with one felony count of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He will be arraigned in Central Islip Courts on Saturday.

Police said they received a 911 phone call Friday from a motorist who said he was following a 2002 black Ford Focus that was missing a front tire while traveling eastbound on Route 25 in Huntington. The caller helped Second Precinct police find the vehicle heading southbound on Commack Road near Vanderbilt Parkway at 12:35 p.m.

Officers arriving at the scene determined Weiss, driver of the Ford Focus, was intoxicated. Weiss' two-year-old son was in the back seat of the vehicle, unharmed.

There was significant damage done to the Ford Focus by the accident, and the front passenger side tire was worn down to the rim, according to police. 

Second Precinct detectives are asking anyone with damaged property or vehicles by unknown means to contact them at 631-854-8252. The police investigation is ongoing.

Hauppauge

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Hauppauge woman in connection with a string of local car break-ins from July 14 to Sept. 19.

Mary Patricia Elliott, 47, pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of fourth-degree grand larceny for using stolen credit cards and four misdemeanor charges of petty larceny in Central Islip Courts on Oct. 8.

Police said Elliott broke into multiple cars at Boomers Family Fun Entertainment Center in Medford on July 14, taking valuables from multiple cars between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Items reported stolen included credit cards, an XM radio, sunglasses and cash, according to police reports.

Next, Elliott allegedly broke into a parked car outside on Sept. 18 at approximately 1 p.m., according to police reports. The vehicle's owner reported cash and personal items were taken.

Cops said Elliott  continued her spree by breaking several cars parked along Hollywood Drive in Smithtown on Sept. 19. between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. She also broke into a car on Hoffman Lane in Hauppauge on Sept. 26, taking sunglasses, cash and an XM radio, according to police reports. 

Elliott has been released on $5,000 bond. Her lawyer Ira Weissman, of Central Islip, said he had no comment on the case as it is pending before the courts.

Massapequa

Police have released surveillance photos of a man and a woman wanted for questioning in connection with the theft of a charity donation container at a Massapequa 7-Eleven.

The pair got away with $200 in cash that was being collected for Muscular Dystrophy at the located at 5570 Merrick Road, cops said.

A man described as being 5-feet 9-inches tall and wearing blue jeans, a t-shirt, blue baseball cap and a white sweater grabbed the can along with a woman who is 5-feet 4, wearing leggings, a dark shirt and a white sweater.

They poured the cash into a large monogram pocketbook the woman was carrying.

Police are urging anyone with information about the theft to call Crime Stoppers, which is offering a reward up to $5,000.  Their phone number is 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
